Friday offered 2004 earnings guidance in the range of analysts' forecasts.
The company said it expects to earn $1.20 a share to $1.30 a share. The consensus estimate is $1.30 a share, according to Thomson First Call.
The forecast works out to net profit of $3.5 billion to $3.8 billion, a range that matches or slightly surpasses 2003 results. It is looking at an automotive pretax profit of $900 million to $1.1 billion.
The company said it hopes to cut costs by about $500 million this year.
Ford said it expects an improvement in its European division.
Shares closed Thursday at $17.10, up 11 cents.
