NEW YORK (
) -- A magnitude 6.9 earthquake hit off Mexico's Baja California today according to
reports from the U.S. Geological Survey
The quake's epicenter was in the Gulf of California, 65 miles south of Los Mochis in the state of Sinaloa in Mexico, and just 6.2 miles below the seabed.
While the earthquake did not trigger a tsunami, the Pacific Tsunami center said it could cause some local waves.
