NEW YORK (
) -- Consumer sentiment in June rose to its highest level since January 2008.
The University of Michigan index rose to 76 late in the month, up from 73.6 in May and 75.5 in mid-June. Economists forecast a reading of 75.5.
The current conditions index increased to 85.6 from 81, while the expectations index rose to 69.8 from 68.8.
