Former Hewlett Packard (HPQ) CEO Carly Fiorina knows a thing or two about leadership.

And based on her years of experience, there is one key problem right now in Corporate America: fear of taking risks at the board level. "I think we are down to basic human nature -- all of us are comfortable with people like us, people we know," Fiorina told TheStreet. Fiorina thinks boards tend to bring on people they know, rather than someone new from the outside with a fresh perspective.

Says Fiorina, "One of the biggest risks of all is sticking with what you have always done."
