The stock market put in another positive week, closing mixed on Friday after a jobs report that saw payrolls decline less than expected but witnessed the
unemployment rate rise
to 9.4%.
The
Dow Jones Industrial Average
closed up 12.77 points higher, or 0.2%, at 8763.01, while the
S&P 500
lost 2.26 points, or 0.2%, to finish at 940.20. The
Nasdaq Composite
ticked down just 0.6, or 0.03%, to 1849.42.
The Dow made a session-long attempt to move into positive territory for the year, occasionally surpassing the Dec. 30 close of 8,776.39.
For the week, the Dow rose 3.1%, the S&P 500 added 2.3%, and the Nasdaq moved up 4.2%.
