The bears chalked up a win in TheStreet.com RealMoney Barometer poll this week, their first since July 6.

That negative sentiment no doubt was inspired by a selloff Friday that was blamed on a decline in consumer confidence. The selloff continued Monday, but since that day, stocks have finished higher three straight times.

In this week's poll, the bears got 1,002, or 44% of the 2,288 votes cast. The bulls got 880, or 38%, while neutral came in with 406 votes, or 18%.

On Thursday, the

Dow Jones Industrial Average

climbed 70.89, or 0.8%, to 9350.05, while the

S&P 500

tacked on 10.91 points, or 1.1%, to 1007.37. The

Nasdaq Composite

edged up 19.98 points, or 1%, to 1989.22.
