FRIDAY'S EARNINGS

AIG (AIG) - Get Report Posts Loss, Beats Street View

Top Line:

Net investment income rose 28% to $1.1 billion.

Earnings:

AIG reported a $2.7 billion loss, or $3.96 per share, compared with a net income of $1.8 billion, or $2.30 per share. Adjusted for expenses relating to a goodwill impairment charge, earnings per share was up 17% at $1.99 per share. Analysts were expecting 99 cents per share.

Outlook:

AIG said it continues to execute on its restructuring plans and prepares for separation from the U.S. government.

Kraft (KFT) Beats Consensus, Gains from Cadbury

Top Line:

Revenue rose 25% to $12.3 billion, helped by Cadbury's acquisition.

Earnings:

Net income rose to $937 million, or 53 cents per share, up 13.3% from $827 million, or 56 cents per share, in the year-ago quarter. Excluding one-time items, Kraft's earnings came in at 60 cents per share, ahead of consensus of 52 cents per share.

Outlook:

Kraft confirmed full-year operating earnings of $2 per share.

THURSDAY'S EARNINGS

Liz Clairborne (LIZ) Posts Smaller-Than-Expected Loss

Top Line:

Revenue declined 16% to $569.8 million from $674.6 million.

Earnings:

Losses came in at $86.8 million, or 92 cents per share, up from a loss of $82.1 million, or 87 cents, a year earlier. On an adjusted basis, the loss per share was 19 cents, much lower than the 46 cents the street predicted.

Outlook:

The company expects to return to profitability in the fourth quarter.

Viacom (VIA) - Get Report Earnings Soar on Lower Costs

Revenue was flat at $3.3 billion.

Net income rose 51.6% to $420 million, or 69 cents per share, from $277 million, or 46 cents per share. Earnings from continuing operations were 68 cents per share, slightly ahead of consensus estimates of 66 cents.

Fortress Investment Beats Estimates

Losses widened to $251 million from $151 million. Loss per share for Class A holders came in at 57 cents versus 40 cents a year earlier. Pre-tax distributable earnings, which excludes a heavy amortization expense, climbed to $73 million, or 14 cents per share, beating estimates by 6 cents.

Sirius XM (SIRI) - Get Report Beats Revenue Estimates

Top Line:

Revenue rose 16% to $699.7 million, better than the expected $691.4 million. Subscriber additions grew 6% from the year-ago quarter to 19.5 million subscribers.

Earnings:

Net income was $15.3 million compared with a loss of $159.6 million, or 4 cents per share, a year earlier. That was in-line with estimates.

Outlook:

The company upped its full-year revenue estimate to $2.8 billion from $2.7 billion.

Net income rose 26% to $35.1 million, or 11 cents per share, from $27.9 million, or 9 cents per share. Adjusted for items, earnings would have been 19 cents per share, beating estimates by 3 cents.

Anadarko Petroleum (APC) - Get Report Narrows Loss, Beats View

Top Line:

Revenue for the quarter ended in June rose 36% to $2.6 billion from $1.9 billion.

Earnings:

Losses narrowed to $40 million, or 8 cents per share, from a loss of $226 million, or 48 cents per share, a year earlier. Adjusted net income came in at 49 cents per share, beating estimates of 33 cents.

Outlook:

Anadarko raised its full-year production guidance. Sales volumes are expected to be in the range of 232 million to 236 million barrels of oil equivalent, representing an increase of 5% to 7% over 2009.

Whole Foods (WFMI) Reports In-Line

Top Line:

Revenue for the third quarter ended July rose 15% to $2.16 billion on higher strong comps.

Profits rose 88% to $65.7 million, or 38 cents per share, from $35 million, or 25 cents per share. Results were in line with expectations.

Earnings:

Higher marketing expenses eroded profit. Earnings dropped to $2.19 billion, or 71 cents a share, from $2.47 billion, or 80 cents a share, a year earlier. Analysts expected 73 cents.

Dow Chemical (DOW) - Get Report Misses on Revenue, EPS

Top Line:

Revenue rose 20% to $13.6 billion. Excluding acquisitions, sales rose 26%.

Earnings:

Dow Chemical swung to profit in the second quarter, reporting earnings of $566 million, or 50 cents a share, from a loss of $486 million, or 47 cents a share. Adjusted earnings came in at 54 cents. Analysts were expecting 56 cents.

Evergreen Solar (ESLR) Narrows Loss

Losses narrowed to $3.3 million, or 2 cents a share, from $20.5 million, or 11 cents a share. Loss figure includes $24.8 million of net gains on the early extinguishment of outstanding debt, $6.9 million of foreign exchange losses caused by the weakening Euro and a $3.2 million gain on the reversal of a portion of the Sovello impairment which occurred concurrent with its sale during the quarter.

Revenue:

Revenue rose 9.5% to $8.65 billion, ahead of analysts expectations of $8.61 billion.

Allergan (AGN) - Get Report Profits Jump on Strong Demand

Revenue:

Revenue rose 10% to $1.24 billion from $1.13 billion a year ago.

Earnings:

Profit jumped 36% to $240.1 million, or 79 cents per share, from $176.1 million, or 58 cents. Adjusted for items, earnings per share came in at 86 cents, ahead of estimates of 81 cents.
