6 Cash-Rich Stocks With Bullish Stock Charts
From Bank of America/Merrill Lynch's list of 17 high-quality, cash-rich S&P 500 stocks, the following six stocks look attractive from the long side. Using a three-year weekly chart, looking to avoid the "noise" of a daily chart, I found six stocks in sustained uptrends.
(I also found four stocks on the list whose charts aren't looking nearly as pretty.)
Pepsi
In this weekly chart, above, of PepsiCo (PEP) - Get Report we can see that prices move from the lower left part of the chart to the upper right part: an uptrend! Prices are above the rising 40-week moving average line.
The on-balance-volume, or OBV, line is pointing up and confirming the price strength, and the momentum study is not signaling signs of a bearish divergence.
From a fundamental perspective, Pepsi is a holding in Jim Cramer's Action Alerts PLUS charitable portfolio. Cramer and Research Director Jack Mohr wrote recently:
"In our view, Pepsi is a strong income name, and we expect its ... yield to grow. Beyond this, we appreciate its diversified presence, ability to adapt to a low-growth environment for consumer packaged-food companies, best-in-class cost efficiency & productivity, and robust free cash flow growth. We would be buyers on any sharp pullback."
Coca-Cola
This chart of Coca-Cola (KO) - Get Report , above, is also positive, with a rising OBV line and a rising 40-week moving average line. The are no important bearish divergences for this iconic name.
Johnson & Johnson
Everyone knows Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) - Get Report , but not everyone knows that the stock has broken out to new high ground. Prices are above the rising 40-week moving average line, and with a rising OBV line, the uptrend is likely to continue.
C.R. Bard
This chart of C.R. Bard (BCR) screams that you have to go long the stock. It's a great-looking chart in a long-term rally. Prices are over the 40-week moving average line, with a supportive and rising OBV line.
Edwards Lifesciences
In this weekly chart, above, of Edwards Lifesciences (EW) - Get Report , we can see an accelerating price line. The OBV line is rising. The 40-week moving average line continues its rise, and there are no bearish divergences to fret about.
Raytheon
Raytheon (RTN) - Get Report , chart above, rounds out our list of strong-looking stocks. Prices are trending higher. The 40-week moving average line is rising, and there are no bearish divergences when it comes to price momentum. The only indicator right now to keep an eye is the OBV line, which is neutral.
