The 'Boogaloo Boys' Make Armed Protest at Ohio Statehouse

Mish

The Boogaloo Boys are at a number of state capitols today. Let's check in.

Boogaloo Supports BLM?

Michigan Boogaloo Protest

We come in peace. But I am pleading with you with tears in my eyes and cracks in my voice. If you continue to oppress the American people they will remain rational no longer. My message is vey simple. We can do this together or we can start fighting pointlessly and kill each other."

No Show in Utah

I'm out at the Utah Capitol approx 2 hours after the time a permit application said a Boogaloo rally would start, and 12 minutes before some flyers said a rally would start, and the grounds are basically empty, save for law enforcement, troops and some dog walkers

Boogaloo Virginia Style

Mike Dunn, a leader, told Reuters they are open carrying rifles and using 40 round magazines in defiance of local laws. Police say they aren’t breaking laws.

What About New Hampshire?

Boogaloo Slang

NPR Reports 'Boogaloo' Is The New Far-Right Slang For Civil War

The word "boogaloo" once represented a fusion of people and cultures. It was both a musical sound and a dance. Now, it's favored on the far right as shorthand for an uprising against the government.

Boogaloo Racist Meme

Also consider The 'Boogaloo' Started as a Racist Meme

At the protests that have broken out across the country after George Floyd’s death at the hands of Minneapolis police officers, so-called boogaloo bois have been a conspicuous presence. Members of the overwhelmingly white online subculture have shown up to protests heavily armed and clad in Hawaiian shirts – a reference to the “big luau,” an adaptation of the word “boogaloo.”

Among the loose online network of adherents, the boogaloo is often presented as a race-blind call for armed insurrection against government tyranny. “The boogaloo movement is (for the most part) a libertarian group,” a member posted in a boogaloo-themed Facebook group after a week of protests. “The boog is not the people vs the people, the boog is the people vs the government. It’s a revolution, not a civil war,” he wrote. Many members of the movement see the recent outbreak of protests as the potential kickoff for widespread revolutionary upheaval, where citizens will unite against the perceived tyrannical state.

But a look at the movement’s origins and its online communities make it clear that its politics are much more complicated than straightforward libertarianism, and that few of its adherents are interested in aligning with Black Lives Matter or antifascist protesters against police brutality.

Comments

  1. This state capitol protest was a huge fizzle all around, at least so far, and gratefully so.
  2. I do not expect fireworks on January 20 inauguration either.
  3. Boogaloo is one hell of a name for a group professing support for BLM, assuming of course there is any central set of beliefs.

I suspect the Boogaloo Boys (BOIS) are akin to the Tea Party. Groups of people opposed to government in general but no widespread cohesive principles.

For citizens that want to own a gun, forming a militia fits the letter of the 2nd Amendment. Perhaps we'll be seeing more of these aimless, but peaceful groups. At that point, passing a new amendment might be problematic.

Loose cannons wanting to use a cannon. Get a job and get a life. If you have much of any IQ you'll find yourself seeing how stupid and irrelevant you are.

Mish, do you have a list of specific grievances from any of these groups? And I mean real grievances, not made up crap about “rigged” elections.

You quoted, “If you continue to oppress the American people they will remain rational no longer.”

OK, who is oppressing these people? How are they being oppressed? I have yet to see any real list of issues from any of these groups other than “Trump won” except he didnt win.

Mish, did you ever see the movie Breakin’ 2 Electric Boogaloo? I saw it at the Evergreen Plaza movie theater about 45 years ago on a date. The good news is that we went to Palmero’s down 95th Street afterwards, then Maple Lake, if you know what I mean and I think you do.

Those boys are the sore losers of the American Experiments, now just as 4 years ago.

More revolutionaries.

What an absolutely dashing bunch of devil-may-care Musketeers.

If you absolutely have no chance whatsoever of EVER getting a date, you can always buy an AR-15 knock-off and dress up in paramilitary drag and walk around the Capitol with 40 in the clip and one in the chamber......manly men.

They better be careful that they aren’t going to be what gets served up for dinner at the Big Luau.

And, we're talking about how many guys? A couple dozen? I'm thinking they are way, way outnumbered by the "journalists" writing their press releases.

This is what passes for "news"?

But, thanks for the laughs, fellow Mish commenters. The world can never have too much funny entertainment.

Why am I suddenly remembering the Dave Chappell skit where he's the blind leader of the KK, but doesn't realize he's black?...The look on the faces of clansmen as he walks by....hilarious.

There was that Key & Peel racist Zombie one, where it's the apocalypses, Zombie's turn away when they approach, a Zombie couple roll up the car window as they approach.

The scene in Blackkklansman when his fellow officers first realize he's talking to Dave Duke, they're keeling over laughing, trying not to blow his cover while he's on the phone, one laughing so bad he has to leave the room.

Any time I see nitwits like the ones in the picture above, I can't help the smirk, knowing how ridiculous they are....they just look ridiculous.

Since they say they aren't for Trump, it's hard to know what they are for. Nevertheless, here is a musical tribute to the Boogaloo Boys:

I continue to have more and more problems in how the 2nd amendment is being applied. Groups like Boogaloo should be labeled terrorist and not be permitted to own and carry. Boogaloo was involved with the plot to kidnap Governor Whitmer. We have a domestic terrorism problem in the USA that we have not come to terms with. Chris Wray spoke about it. Ironic that Trump complains about foreign terrorism yet more Americans have died at the hands of domestic terrorists

It's too bad that the media gives these individuals so much time. These guys represent what the rest of the world thinks about Americans. You are all just like these guys.

But then the media also gave Trump a lot of time. The world watched.

Now the world thinks you are all morons.

Somehow that doesn't seem very fair.

The boys are a product of the 2nd amendment and resulting deep seated societal worship of gun rights, which has been corrupted for political/tribal gain, not unlike religion. Many Americans worship two idols, God and the gun, in the name of liberty and justice. However they haven't learned the "for all" part.

The names of these groups... pseudo bad asses guised as patriots using laughable names like "Proud Boys" and the "Boogaloos"...

I can't be the only one smirking when I hear names like this and see the cast of Deliverance standing in front of government buildings, right?

Ho Hum not much to be concerned about so far. Most people don't want trouble which includes most of these fringe extremists groups and when confronted with the strong law, they melt away. Now if only the same would have happened with the BLM rioters, we would have been spared much destruction in American cities.

From the Atlantic: an article on the fall of the third Republic in France:

What is especially useful to remember about the Dreyfus affair now is the point of no return it represented, the repugnant embrace of lies by one half of society, educated people who were not ignorant but who had simply ceased to care. For them, the truth was irrelevant; what mattered was preserving their vision of the nation, regardless of the facts.

Maybe not to heavy on principles but looks to me like a lot of heavily armed kids without any intelligent leadership or grasp on reality. When I was their age these kind of armed protests were unimaginable.

Without America there is no Canada. The Chinese would abscond with British Columbia and the French East Canada would separate from the middle provinces. The one indispensable capacity that America has is vitality and energy. When you look at that ridiculous Trudeau mirage of a cabinet all I see is dissolution and separation in Canada's future. Who will fight for Canadian unity. No one it appears.

The Mini-14 is a great rifle. One of my sons has a cerakoted one. My favorite is actually my Tavor. My other son has an FS2000 (a strangely unique rifle).
