Oprah for President 2020?

Mish

NBC posted a Tweet "Nothing but respect for OUR Future president". Meryl Streep says "Winfrey doesn’t have a choice."

Shares of Weight Watchers, a company in which Oprah Winfrey owns ten percent, shot up as much as 13% today after ‘Oprah for President’ talk that started last evening at the Golden Globe awards.

NBC created quite a stir with the Tweet, now removed.

Early Monday, NBC appeared to back off the apparent Oprah endorsement, and blamed it on a "third party."

"Yesterday a tweet about the Golden Globes and Oprah Winfrey was sent by a third party agency for NBC Entertainment in real time during the broadcast," read the tweet. "It is in reference to a joke made during the monologue and not meant to be a political statement. We have since removed the tweet."

Media Research Center Vice President Dan Gainor told Fox News that the initial tweet was “stunningly unprofessional” and it’s the “latest of about a billion examples” of how openly liberal and anti-Trump the mainstream media is on a regular basis.

As of Monday morning, NBC’s tweet had been retweeted more than 5,000 times and liked nearly 20,000 times. Not all of the comments beneath the message were in favor of NBC's Democratic strategy.

So, will Winfrey actually challenge Trump?

“The media have been pushing an Oprah candidacy since the 1990s. People magazine polled in 1999 and found her the most popular celebrity candidate and in 2003 she responded to another effort by vowing she'd ‘never’ get into politics. Yet her name keeps being brought up by liberals who want to use populism for their own aims,” Gainor said.

Winfrey’s longtime partner, Stedman Graham, told The Los Angeles Times that “It's up to the people” whether she should run for president, but said “she would absolutely do it."

Seth Meyers Connection

At the Golden Globes, comedian Seth Meyers offered this joke during his opening monologue.

That is what inspired NBC who then blamed a third-party agency.

No Choice?

Meryl Streep claims Oprah Winfrey 'doesn't have a choice ' and must run for President amid outpouring of praise for her Golden Globes Speech.

Will She or Won't She?

Image placeholder title

In a December 12, 2016 interview (posted on March 1, 2017) Oprah told David Rubenstein "No, that won't be happening".

That statement does not show in the above clip but does appear on a full Bloomberg clip.

The choice is hers, and hers alone, not Streeps.

Doesn't matter.

Unless there is a complete collapse of the economy, Trump wins easily in 2020 no matter who the Democrats manage to talk into running.

Yep - I'm calling it now.

"It is in reference to a joke made during the monologue and not meant to be a political statement." It is obviously a political statement.

It all boils down to can she sway independent voters in the upper midwest, central atlantic and/or florida? Can't say. But, it will be an uphill battle if she runs on the platform or reversing Trumps tax plan, raising income taxes for the middle class and helping those poor people in New York and California who have SALT over $15K.

I'd love to see it and watch all that naive popularity get destroyed by a flawed political system. Politics is a dirty game and Trump won't solve the debt / crony capitalism created by politicians so it'd be amusing to see movie stars try to take the reins. At least Trump had business experience.

Electing someone else for President will not change things in Washington. The president has limited ability to change things. All of congress is owned by the big money. They have to have that big money to get re-elected. Keep the "Deep State" happy or the money goes to someone else.

The President has a bully pulpit. If a President showed up with legislation in hand and called out Congress on a few crony issues, some things might change in a hurry. What would happen to drug costs if big pharma were no longer allowed to collude and fix prices, for instance? How popular would that president be? That kind of thing will never come from an insider.

Mish if you had your choice, who would you pick? Wouldn’t matter imo. The country, the world is drowning in too much debt. There r a lot of people who know what to do but they would never be elected. We need a worldwide economic financial collapse. It might have worked 8 years ago with the perfect president who understood that the country and the world has to be totally restructure our

Halftime~we’ve gone way too far now to be able to have some kind of worldwide restructuring plan with the dollar remaining the world’s reserve currency. So it’s scary to me to see what’s coming because it favors the globalist with all their ideas of political power being centralized in some kind of New World Order with one currency they control probably digital and a even a sort of one world government replacing United Nations. I’ve gotten way off the subject here Mish, sorry

A rich out of touch Hollywood socialist wants to run for president? What could go wrong? But hey, she is black and a female so automatically will get 45% of the vote...

Sechel -- The problem is that the professional politicians are so dirty at this point that no one wants them. Obama was picked because he had no record. Trump was picked because he wasn't one of 14 or 15 slimy Republicans and he wasn't Hillary. Find me a candidate from the traditional pool that isn't tainted beyond all reason. There is no one out there that isn't beholden to the cronies. If your net worth is less than $100,000,000 the whole pack of them could care less about you, except to buy your vote with money they have already taken from you a gunpoint. This is a cynical viewpoint, but I don't think it is too far from reality.
