The Trump and Republican idea is for states to declare bankruptcy and restructure. They want o punish states. The truth is all 50 states have state budget issues because of Coronavirus. The longer this crisis goes on the higher the likelihood we will end up being ruled by Trump the way Putin rules Russia. Canada may not look so bad to many Americans under that scenario.

There is no provision in constitution or federal law for states to declare bankruptcy. I guess what states can do is stop sending money to the fed or create their own currencies for their own people. That would be one way to get rid of the federal reserve. And Canada not letting Americans in right now nor is Europe.

What is telling about the chart is for the most part larger states have the larger shortfalls. That makes sense given they have more people, larger economies and thus likely more layoffs. The bottom line is the longer this crisis goes on the higher the likelihood Trump just stays in office and declares martial law. I honestly don't think his party would stand in his way because it means more power for their ideas.
