Coca Cola Confirms Training Employees ‘Try To Be Less White’

Mish

Is Coca Cola sponsoring racism? That's the claim. You be the judge.

‘Try To Be Less White’

When I first saw this story I was highly skeptical.

However, the training course is available online and Coca Cola is doing its best to try to back down from the course.

Here's the course Confronting Racism, with Robin DiAngelo

In this course, Robin DiAngelo, the best-selling author of White Fragility, gives you the vocabulary and practices you need to start confronting racism and unconscious bias at the individual level and throughout your organization. There’s no magic recipe for building an inclusive workplace. It’s a process that needs to involve people of color, and that needs to go on for as long as your company’s in business.

The free into above does not show the ending slide "Try to be less white" but what you can see is galling enough.

The video Tweet by @DrKarlynB shows more of the damning slides.

Coca-Cola Whitewash

Backlash

Late Sunday evening NewsWeek reported Coca-Cola, Facing Backlash, Says 'Be Less White' Learning Plan Was About Workplace Inclusion

Coca-Cola, facing mounting backlash from conservatives online, has responded to allegations of anti-white rhetoric after an internal whistleblower leaked screenshots of diversity training materials that encourages staff to "try to be less white."

A Coca-Cola spokesperson confirmed that the course is "part of a learning plan to help build an inclusive workplace," but also noted that "the video circulating on social media is from a publicly available LinkedIn Learning series and is not a focus of our company's curriculum."

Coca-Cola Logo

The Coca-Cola logo is on training snapshots in the video Tweet.

If Coca-Cola did not authorize and pay for the the training, the slides would not have their logo, Karlyn would be in deep legal trouble, and Twitter would have removed the Tweet.

Who in the hell is reviewing their training materials?

Candance Owens

Best selling author Candance Owens had this to say.

Owens is Founder of the @BLEXIT  organization. "Black people don’t have to be Democrats— still."

Coke Is Racist

The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Salon, and Washington Post have no coverage of this.

All the top sites plus Coca-Cola all want to sweep this under the rug.

Why Trump Nearly Won

Please recall Politically Correct Educators Vote to Rename 44 SF Schools Including Washington and Lincoln

Also note The Dumbing Down of America is Poised to Accelerate.

If you are looking for a reason why millions of people voted for Trump, look no further.

I intended to do a post on why Trump nearly won but this post will suffice.

Every bit of this is a complete outrage. It is why Trump won in 2016. Had he toned things down a bit in 2020 he probably would have been reelected.

It is all over universities now to the extreme. People lose their jobs without any due process if they say anything out of line with the accepted dogma even if you say it outside of work.

Corporations are following along as they have to for PR and marketing purposes.

A serious Trump could have spoken out against this and tried to bring people along to a sensible consensus. Instead, he played to the base and turned of people who might have been won over. Polls shows that most Americans do not like the Politically Correct or cancel culture but they are being run over by the diversity and inclusion masters.

This is like a mixture of McCarthyism and the Cultural Revolution in China. There are some quotes from Orwell that describe perfectly the erasure of history and the felling of statues.

San Francisco is changing the names of school from Washington and Lincoln.

This is getting out of hand and it is destructive.

Training customers to try other products. Best cola I ever had is sold by Aldi under the label Summit Cola. I recommend it highly... I also recommend that stockholders examine the board members and fire everyone that plays into that idea. They are destroying your brand.

This is just a manifestation that some parts of the Left have become drunk with power. Very few people believe this bullshit but play along to keep their jobs. Eventually people have their fill and say enough. It reminds me of a quote:

"The best way to get a bad law repealed is to enforce it strictly."

The real issue is whether there is racism in this country and whether companies ought to engage in racial sensitivity training. anyone who thinks racism and bias are not issues that need to be confronted in this country is living in a cocoon. While on the surface this doesn't feel like the best put together material of an effective course I suspect the real issue is an agenda on the right to end such training just as Trump tried to do while in office.

"Why Trump won in 2016"? - "libertarian values" that pervade American society are a much more fundamental reason. The above Coca Cola example is just an excuse used by fox news personalities to rally the base. Why did Texas freeze up - libertarian values again... not that I think libertarian values are necessarily bad, just that the ideology has been played big time and proponents are a bit naive.

I'm 'liberal'. I just want to live in a world where my gender and skin colour are almost irrelevant.

But I don't want to live in a world which tries to tell me be less male, less white or be ashamed or guilty of being either.

As soon as I saw the title I knew Robin DiAngelo would feature in this article. She's made a fortune pushing this narrative, between her book and exorbitant consulting fees.

We're a nation that likes to scapegoat and/or virtue signal rather than dealing with our problems, so this latest phenomenon isn't surprising.

Telling any culture to be less then anything or anyone, other then human is racist....Lets see if every white bans Coca Cola and any of their products, how fast their own racism will change....There won't be a Coca Cola product left in my house after today....not even worth giving to a pantry, to the trash it all goes just like any racist product should.

Academic America has bought the Woke bullshit hook, line, and sinker. Now it’s working its way through corporate America.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I find it insulting that I could spend my whole career making a real effort to treat all people with dignity and respect.....and yet be called a racist merely because I happen to be white.

To me, the Robin DiAngelos of the world are a symptom of the liberal white guilt disease.....where well-meaning white people without much common sense.....become willing to confess to crimes they didn’t even know they committed in order to attain some kind of redemption somebody else is telling them they need.

This stuff comes down directly from Peggy McIntosh at Brown.....who was an extremely privileged white woman who suddenly noticed that there were black people out there who got treated a lot differently than she did...and she decided to make it her life’s work to let all the white people know how prejudiced and clueless they were.

News flash. We weren’t all as clueless as you were, Peggy.

For ordinary people in this country, who have grown up after the Civil Rights movement and have actually lived and worked and gone to school with people of races other than their own...and who were thinking that just maybe we were past some of the terrible racism of the past and we could all just move on......this seems silly and counterproductive.

Of course, if you are making bank off this enforced anti-racism movement, I’m sure it seems really righteous.

This post begs a fundamental question: Why is Coca Cola and why are other corporates going down this path?

My theory: As population demographics continue to change, these companies want their employees to reflect their changing customer base. It is hard to attract diverse talent when the executive group amd board of a firm are all mostly monolithic.

I dont agree with the approach but I would like to understand why. Any theories that dont involve jewish lasers?

I'm amused by the conflict of statements:

  • Be less certain (ie be more ignorant)
  • Be less ignorant (ie be more certain)

and that some just repeat themselves:

  • Be less arrogant
  • Be more humble

It's like they got paid to put X number of bullet points on the slide and they just ran out of things to say :)

Trump won because he borrowed Bernie's progressive agenda of "tax the rich, help the poor" and combined it with conservative red meat of anti-immigration and America first, and was able to appeal to both the right and the gullible left. Trump promised "much much better" everything , including healthcare etc.. Trump lied through his teeth to get elected, as he was not planning to help the general populace and had no actual plans of how to implement the "much much better", it was all just a show.
Also democrats dump a couple Billion dollars in red areas every couple years, whereas all the media on the radio (for example) is conservative and is broadcasting in the red areas 24/7. Democrats need a couple progressive radio networks spanning the country for a couple decades.

Clearly the term "white" is a label used to denote cultural and character traights, associated by those holding a caucasian complex, and is not a visual feature of the caucasian complex itself. That is not surprising given that those who hold a caucasian complex do not usually openly display or advertise it, the tendency to be of non-caucasian racial descent is otherwise all inclusive but does little to aid in its discernment . About the only people not to suffer caucasian complex are caucasians themselves, which is obviously racist and discriminatory on non caucasians, which is what that course is all about.

"Only those less white have a true caucasian complex, so be less white or you ain't white at all."

Welcome back Mish! I had given up on your blog about 6 months ago as Trump Derangement Syndrome had blocked all sense of rationality from your posts...you became a blind crusader in my opinion. Nice to see that with him out of the way, you can actually think coherently and objectively again.

Hopefully this trend will continue and I can gain well though out insight from your blog again!

Discrediting any other new sources and sowing confusion, is an integral part part of conservative media propaganda machine to ensure their viewers / listeners keep watching / listening to them. Conservative media message is "Though shall trust trust us, nobody else". Nobody on the "liberal" networks will say that you can't trust other reputable news sources.

From Wikipedia ("surely a liberal platform", Fox would say)
"The Pew survey found that the NPR audience tends Democratic (17% Republican, 37% independent, 43% Democratic) and centrist (21% conservative, 39% moderate, 36% liberal).
Former names: Association of Public Radio St...
Owner: National Public Radio, Inc"

Slightly liberal.
From a former conservative, now progressive point of view (mine) - NPR is going out of their way to try and be as centrist as possible. As a progressive you can literally feel that as news comes in, you can compare how NPR covers it vs slightly more left CNN , and even more left MSNBC.

Great article with one big miss toward the end... the author says Trump could have won if he'd toned things down. I still don't believe he lost, legally anyway. Mail-in ballots were the only way Biden got ahead, and we all know how insecure the mail is, the USPS has been telling us for decades to never send cash through the mail. It doesn't take a genius to figure out we really have no way now of knowing who won the election, as mail-in ballots created too much doubt.

Great for Coke and other companies for taking an aggressive and oppressive approach towards racism, misogyny etc. Old timers are the only ones who will have a problem with this, as they are the ones who have to make the adjustment away from the old ways. Those of us who spent our childhood in diverse environments (Silicon Valley, Bay Area), think of this stuff as obvious.
Many of us are sick and tired of hearing expressions like "did your vagina hurt" , referring to both males and females experiencing some kind of distress or disappointment like a rejected 5G NR patent application. What the hell, seriously?
The nannies in my childrens kindergarten are from all races, white, Mexican, Indian, middle-eastern, European, Jewish, Black - all do a great job teaching kids reading, math, science, etc... At work we have a diverse culture, and I honestly have never had thoughts such as "these dumb ideas can only come from a <insert your favorite scapegoat racist comment here> "
It's not woke. We in the younger generation are sick and tired of the old timers calling our childhood friends (and their colleagues) racist or misogynistic labels. Times they're a-changin'

Your first instinct to be skeptical was probably the right one. I’m pretty sure Coke, just like my company, makes LinkedIn learning options available to employees. Looks like someone got a poor quality offering onto LinkedIn learning and could be accessed through a company portal.
