C_O this is a great link, I had to stop it at 14:07 where he says HEY remember the TELEPHONE? It struck me as so true. My best friend will text gibberish and very often weeks would go by and I would hear nothing. I tried to call and he simply does not talk on the phone. The voice mailbox is full so can't even leave a message. Turned out his life was going down the tubes and he needed help. Short of flying to Denver I could not get through.
He talks about how social media curates your bubble with algos, how it manipulates for clicks so platforms can generate revenue. But, that does not allow for things like the troll farms in russia which really do exist. There are real enemies that seek to manipulate us in order to undermine our nation for the purpose of destroying it, and we do not have the ability to recognize which posts are authentic dissent and which are dangerous fakes meant to do us harm. We would not be in this state if our real enemies with bad motives were in a red font would we?
In the context of this post at Mish the question was like a hurt manipulative disappointed girlfriend: "Why have you become so anti-Trump?"
It poses no argument, it is simple and direct, and of course all aware people know you will never be able to answer any question that starts with ?WHY? to the satisfaction of the asking party. It is a trap to engage you so that you are open to their side or their feelings. It is also one of the tools of the troll farm when they are losing a valuable resource.
Rational people would not ask this question. It cannot be answered to anyone's satisfaction. It is meant to rope you in and nothing more. If the doctor is right and social media is doing this to us (I think he is) then we do the right thing and dump social media (I do not have F'book and only recently restarted at Twitter) but if there is a war on America being instigated on Twitter for example then it is on that platform we have to fight.
One of the problems is that platforms almost never have UNLIKES or thumbs down so when people post and get that LIKE rush that encourages and reinforces this behavior so people get no negative feedback from posts, only the positive that causes that sugar rush. Reddit allows down votes and they impact your total "Karma" on the platform. But there is peer pressure never to down vote.
Anyway, this is a great link that makes you think so I appreciate your attempts to do that, it is the right thing.
