Dear Mish, I enjoyed our relationship but you've left your first love

Dr. Engineer

Dear Mish, I enjoyed our relationship of several years. Unfortunately, your obsessions with Trump is annoying because I look to you for economic opinion / information / understanding. I can go to multiple locations for all sorts of Trump views so this just wastes my time. There have been too many Trump posts and not enough economic posts so it is time for me to focus on other sites more. I will check back periodically in the hopes that you will return to your economic post roots.

Didn't you post the same thing a few months ago? Apparently your search for other content has not gone well!

Give zerohedge.com and take a look if you haven't already. It is now my go to site on the web for economic and general business articles and commentary. A good site.

I went to ZH for nearly a decade, but they've declined significantly. It used to be a collection of people trying to make sense of the post-TARP world, but it gradually devolved into a troll playground because there is no moderation and the same people make 50+ posts on any big article.

The new ZH is for people who:
-blame one ethnic group (blacks, Jews, Muslims, etc) for all their problems. Pro tip: if you refer to blacks, use the n-word or people will think you're soft, seriously.
-are ultra-religious kooks that thinks Jesuits run the world
-are Q-tards that believe Trump is still playing 4D chess
-obsessively advocate for war with Iran. The site is still generally anti-war but the pro-war people are VERY vocal
-absolutely despise China and think they're always lying, unless it's about Covid-19 data where they are clearly telling the truth
-think Boomers are wonderful and Millennials are irredeemably terrible

They don't even post as much financial content anymore because it generates fewer comments than the "red meat" articles on hot button topics. It's like many of them got tired of talking about the Fed and now want to fight about dopey red/blue topics.

definitely don't go to the comments section on ZH. looks like a bunch of unsupervised asshole kids with an internet connection.
I've noticed a decline in there content too, still a great source for info. the best in my opinion.

I never read the contents. If I like a story or link on zerohedge or mishtalks I usually take it to the next level and begin doing research and see where it goes. Both sites have some very good articles and commentary. As with all reporting on the internet it is always a good idea to verify the information. It can't hurt.

All sites have good and bad reporting. Some things I agree with and some I don't.

I used to think ZH's no moderation style was great, until three types of trolls ruined their boards:

  1. Paid trolls like Einstein101. They wear downvotes as a badge of honor, posting many times daily. Einstein doesn't care about finance but appears on anything related to Israel, the Middle East, or war in general to post pro-Likud, basically neocon content. He's slow to anger and seems to take a perverse pleasure in clogging articles. He's frequently accused of being a paid troll and I don't remember him denying it. There are a number of similar users now but he pioneered the trail.

  2. Crazy trolls like tmosley. He's the consummate Q-tard and his opinions turn on a dime, depending on what Trump says each day. He sees no contradiction in changing his mind often and started the unfortunate trend of trying to weaponize the ignore feature. He doesn't just ignore people, he loudly announces each incident where he's even considering using ignore and does this many times each day, admonishing others to clean up their acts or join the legions of others he's already ignored. He posts with absolute certainty on a wide variety of topics, never showing even a hint of doubt about anything.

  3. Abusive trolls like frankthecrank. I'm not sure he actually cares about any topic in particular, but his purpose seems to be to derail any intelligent discussion by lobbing insults vigorously. He's constantly spewing venom at others. As annoying as the other two troll types are, at least they have an ethos, whereas this type is only there for combat and to get under everyone's skin.

All three types make heroic numbers of posts and seem to have nothing better to do than spam people every day. They are undeterred by negative feedback and have no interest in making friends. Because of these trolls, ZH went from insightful, to just okay, to borderline unreadable over the last decade.

What destroyed ZeroHedge is not a particular set of characters, but at least for some, the content they choose to publish, which is mostly low-brow tabloid type.
Secondly, the dozens of posts they keep pumping out.
Third, the removal of threaded content, which should have been tabs at the very top.
And last but not least, and this applies to all financial sites, the more than ten years of financial repression, with central banks at the epicenter. By destroying any semblance of rational markets, printing money like drunken sailors, there is very little left to discuss.
People just go out and vent their anger and frustration, at some sites more than other, since all substance has left the barn ten years ago.
MishTalk is middle ground, hopefully avoiding where ZH has gone.

Unfortunately this is very close to the truth. ZH has declined a lot. Appalling venom in the comments.

... and I too lament the increasing targeting here of DJT. I've been visiting this site daily since 2013.

not sure if that's mish's intent. though at times i feel he is boosting viewer base. the said part is the comments have focused on anti-trump rhetoric and has crowded out any meaningful dialogue with unwavering ideology . their are plenty of commenters that can enhance mish's narrative with non biased insight. but i am afraid many might have been "chased away".

Mish runs a fair site and unlike many blogs, doesn't seek to create an echo chamber of fawning posters. Wolfstreet is interesting, but he does enforce an echo chamber policy, unfortunately. Calculated Risk is not too bad.

I have visited Mish’s site for 10+ years because he seems to understand, consciously or not, that everything is interconnected. You cant talk politics without it having some impact on economics, you cant talk economics without understanding the politics. Only place mish has lagged behind is in adding the science which he does now that cv19 is front and center. I hope that will continue after cv19 into areas like carbon management, climate change, research and development like clean energy. There are three things that humanity is founded on Energy, Education, Exploration - politics and economics is what drive these pillars now.

Dear Mish: Thank you and stay true to yourself, if people don't like it they will find where they best fit in, it is not your job to please them.
