U.S. stock futures were slightly higher in early overnight trade, following a speech by President Donald Trump outlining a new war strategy in Afghanistan and declaring an end to nation-building.

Dow Futures were up 50 points, or 0.23% higher about 10 p.m. Eastern. S&P futures were up 4 points, or 0.19%, and Nasdaq futures were up 20 points, or 0.35%. Gold futures were off $3 to $1,293.50, while crude oil futures added 0.36%.

In early Asia trade on Tuesday, markets were mixed to higher. Japan's Nikkei was up 31.53 points, or 0.16%, to 19,423. The Shanghai Composite Index was off just 0.01% to 3,286.53.
