NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Twitter (TWTR) - Get Report added a new feature to its app that allows users to stream Wimbledon, this marks the company's first time streaming a live sporting event, CNBC's Carl Quintanilla said on "Squawk on the Street" Wednesday morning.

The feature will have the video of Wimbledon on the left of the screen and streaming tweets about the sporting event on the right.

There is a "lot of discussion about it being the new chapter in the evolution of Twitter" Quintanilla said.

The company signed a deal worth $10 million with the NFL in April that would let the social media site stream 10 of the league's Thursday night football games this fall.

"To be able to fire up Twitter and watch a live sporting event is something we've not seen yet," he said.

The setup appears have the live stream pinned at the top as a "Live" page, according to Recode.

The company also added Bret Taylor, former chief technology officer at Facebook (FB) and co-creator of Alphabet's (GOOGL) Google Maps, as a new member to its board of directors this morning, Quintanilla added.

Shares of Twitter are up 0.01% to $17.14 on Wednesday.

TheStreet Ratings team has this stock at a "sell" with a ratings score of D. This is driven by a number of negative factors, which we believe should have a greater impact than any strengths, and could make it more difficult for investors to achieve positive results compared to most of the stocks we cover. Among the areas we feel are negative, one of the most important has been a generally disappointing historical performance in the stock itself.

TheStreet Ratings objectively rated this stock according to its "risk-adjusted" total return prospect over a 12-month investment horizon. Not based on the news in any given day, the rating may differ from Jim Cramer's view or that of this articles's author.
