Tech investors were busy in extended action Wednesday, following a day in which the major averages turned negative late after trading in positive territory for most of the session.

Dell

was the most active issue in after-hours Instinet trading, shedding 0.3% to $29.30.

Microsoft

(MSFT) - Get Report

was off 0.1% at $68.64.

QLogic

(QLGC)

was unchanged at $56.

Volume was picking up following mostly slow sessions around the holidays. In the first 30 minutes of late Instinet trading, around 2.4 million shares changed hands among the top 20 volume movers.

Intel

was slipping 0.2% at $35.29, and

Compaq

(CPQ)

was adding 0.5% to $10.85.
