Stocks Little Changed in Quiet Trading

Attention today is on the Treasury market, which is skyrocketing.

While stocks meandered through the session, the 30-year Treasury bond soared, sending its yield down well below 6%.

Major market averages -- which ended mixed -- traded in a relatively narrow range throughout the session. The

As for the benchmark Treasury, it rallied sharply. Technical strength and flight-to-quality buying -- thanks in part to a swoon in Argentine stocks and bonds -- were cited for the huge advance in the long bond.

, winners beat losers 2,065 to 1,923 on 970.9 million shares.

On the NYSE, 115 issues set new 52-week highs while 51 touched new lows. On the Nasdaq, 230 issues set new 52-week highs while new lows totaled 32.
