NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Square 1 Financial  (SQBK) rose 14.44% to $20.60 on Thursday, its first day of trading after the company's IPO.

Square 1 priced its initial public offering at $18 a share, which exceeded its range of $15 to $17 a share. The company sold approximately 5.8 million shares to raise $104 million.

The bank offers financial services to entrepreneurs, startup companies, venture capitalists and private equity firms.

The stock hit a high of $20.70 and a low of $19.53 for the day, and more than 5 million shares changed hands.
