Traders and fund managers continued to adjust their portfolios headed into the end of the year Tuesday and Treasury bond prices rose despite strong economic data and gains in stocks. At about 3 p.m. EST, the 10-year Treasury note was gaining 11/32 to 98 31/32, yielding 5.14%, while the 30-year bond was up 20/32 to 97 28/32, yielding 5.52%. The main economic report of the day showed housing starts rose by a stronger-than-expected 8.2% in November and stocks were also higher ? both potentially bearish for bonds. But analysts said the heavy selling in the Treasury market over the last two months might have participants reassessing portfolios as the year concludes.
