) -- Home prices fell in April from a year earlier, but showed some improvement as data suggested a bigger-than-expected boost in spring sales. Home prices rose 1.3% from March.

Standard & Poor's

Case-Shiller home-price index showed Tuesday that home prices fell as the 20-City Composite in April was down 1.9% year over year.

The 10-City Composite was down 2.2% on an annual basis.

The 10- and 20-City Composites improved against the annual rates posted in March of down 2.9% and down 2.6%, respectively.
