Earnings season really kicks off today with Internet bellwether

Yahoo!

(YHOO)

and

Motorola

(MOT)

reporting their fiscal fourth-quarter earnings. Monday,

Goldman Sachs

said that it expects

Yahoo!

to meet 4Q estimates of $0.13 per share, despite the fact that dot-coms have taken quite a beating this year.

Analysts expect

Yahoo!

to have a difficult first quarter due to a continued slowdown in the Internet advertising market. ABN Amro downgraded the Internet stock yesterday before the bell.

Shares of

Yahoo!

traded up 9.7% to finish at $30.13 yesterday.

Motorola

, a maker of wireless communications equipment, announces its earnings on the heels of last month's profit warning. Motorola shares closed down 4.9% to $20.69 yesterday.

On the economic scene, the

Mortgage Applications Survey and the

Consumer Comfort Index are due out today. However, neither indicator should pack much of a wallop in today's trading session.

Today also marks the end of the lockup periods for the recent IPOs listed below.
