The Apple (AAPL) - Get Report effect was in full force Wednesday, after the world's largest company disappointed Wall Street Tuesday night. The news weighed on the U.S. equities market, as company after company reported positive earnings but traded lower on weak guidance or skepticism over growth prospects.
Though Action Alerts Plus holding Apple, and earnings from fellow AAP name Comcast (CMCSA) - Get Report , as well as Coca-Cola (KO) - Get Report and Southwest (LUV) - Get Report dominated the trading day, tech giant Microsoft (MSFT) - Get Report unveiled a host of new features to its Surface tablet -- yes, the same tablet New England Patriot's head coach denounced this weekend.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished 0.17% higher, thanks to an earnings-driven rally in Boeing (BA) - Get Report shares, while the Nasdaq closed down 0.63%. The S&P 500 ended 0.17% lower. Elsewhere, crude prices settled at a three-week low, with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude 1.66% lower at $49.13 a barrel.
But while the world of Wall Street (and TheStreet, too, of course) was focused on earnings, TheStreet and its affiliates were also hard at work hammering out exclusive news today on everything from a continued wave of M&A transactions to MasterCard's (MA) - Get Report latest plans to revolutionize the electronic payments industry to the rise of the pet insurance industry to who's coming to challenge Mylan (MYL) - Get Report in the EpiPen market.
Here are the highlights from TheStreet and its affiliates:
