NEW YORK (

TheStreet

)

-- Mantech International

(Nasdaq:

MANT

) has been downgraded by TheStreet Ratings from buy to hold. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its largely solid financial position with reasonable debt levels by most measures, good cash flow from operations and increase in stock price during the past year. However, as a counter to these strengths, we also find weaknesses including deteriorating net income, disappointing return on equity and poor profit margins.

Highlights from the ratings report include:

  • MANT's debt-to-equity ratio is very low at 0.18 and is currently below that of the industry average, implying that there has been very successful management of debt levels. Along with the favorable debt-to-equity ratio, the company maintains an adequate quick ratio of 1.45, which illustrates the ability to avoid short-term cash problems.
  • Net operating cash flow has slightly increased to $62.25 million or 8.05% when compared to the same quarter last year. The firm also exceeded the industry average cash flow growth rate of -21.03%.
  • Compared to where it was 12 months ago, the stock is up, but it has so far lagged the appreciation in the S&P 500. Despite the fact that it has already risen in the past year, there is currently no conclusive evidence that warrants the purchase or sale of this stock.
  • The company, on the basis of change in net income from the same quarter one year ago, has significantly underperformed when compared to that of the S&P 500 and the IT Services industry. The net income has significantly decreased by 52.3% when compared to the same quarter one year ago, falling from $20.18 million to $9.63 million.
  • Current return on equity is lower than its ROE from the same quarter one year prior. This is a clear sign of weakness within the company. Compared to other companies in the IT Services industry and the overall market, MANTECH INTL CORP's return on equity significantly trails that of both the industry average and the S&P 500.

ManTech International Corporation provides technologies and solutions for mission-critical national security programs in the United States and internationally. Mantech International has a market cap of $715.1 million and is part of the technology sector and computer software & services industry. Shares are up 1.6% year to date as of the close of trading on Thursday.
