Global Stocks Follow Wall Street Higher
NEW YORK (
) -- Stocks across the globe were higher Tuesday after
U.S. markets posted solid gains Monday
, buoyed by surging commodities that were lifted by a weakening dollar.
Overseas markets also rose Tuesday on news from the U.S. that spending rose 0.3% in February. Asia relies heavily on exports to the U.S.
The Nikkei 225 stock average in Tokyo rose Tuesday by 110.67 points, or 1%, to finish at 11,097.14. Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 0.7%.
Stocks in London and Frankfurt were each rising by 0.1%.
Premarket futures suggested stocks would rise when Wall Street opens for trading Tuesday.
On Monday, the
Dow Jones Industrial Average
added 46 points, or 0.4%, to 10,896. The
S&P 500
gained 7 points, or 0.6%, to 1173 and the
Nasdaq
rose by 9 points, or 0.4%, to 2404.
