(This story has been corrected to note that Farfetch has headquarters in London).
The news came just hours after a New York Post report, which was published late Monday, stated that Farfetch would buy the iconic retailer.
However, early Tuesday, Farfetch, with headquarters in London, denied it.
"The story is incorrect - Farfetch is not acquiring Barneys New York," the company said in a statement.
Barneys filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection earlier in August. The move could give the retailer time to restructure its debts and continue operating or find a new investor to help shore up the finances.
