NEW YORK (TheStreet) - Welcome to Don Dion's Daily ETF Winners and Losers. Be sure to stop by each day to get a feel of who's winning and who's losing when it comes to ETFs.

Winners

iPath Dow Jones UBS Natural Gas Subindex Total Return ETN

(GAZ) - Get Report

3.5%

Natural gas prices are heading higher and boosting the futures based GAZ to strong gains. Fellow natural gas-tracking ETF,

United States Natural Gas Fund

(UNG) - Get Report

is jumping today, albeit to a lesser extent.

GAZ's magnified gains can be traced back to the fund's heavy premium which currently stands at 9%.

First Trust NYSE Arca Biotechnology Index Fund

(FBT) - Get Report

2.9%

Biotechnology ETFs are jumping, buoyed by news of

Valient Pharmaceuticals

'

(VRX)

acquisition bid for

Cephalon

(CEPH)

. FBT, which sets aside nearly 5% of its portfolio to CEPH, is leading other funds such as

iShares Nasdaq Biotechnology Index Fund

(IBB) - Get Report

. CEPH accounts for less than 1% of IBB's index.

Market Vectors Brazil Small Cap Index ETF

(BRF) - Get Report

2.9%

Whereas EWZ dedicates the largest percentage of its portfolio to international energy and materials-related goliaths such as

Petrobras

(PBR) - Get Report

and

Vale

(VALE) - Get Report

, BRF's index is targeted towards companies that rely on Brazil's domestic population.

Although by taking a small-cap approach to tracking the nation's markets, BRF is more susceptible to wild swings, I have often highlighted this fund as a strong option for investors looking for exposure to the nation's growing middle class.

Losers

iPath S&P 500 VIX Short Term Futures ETN

(VXX) - Get Report

-2.0%

An optimistic jobs report is helping to fuel the markets higher as we head towards the second half of the week.

In response to this upward action, the fear-based VIX ETNs are taking a shot across the bow. With Wednesday's loss, VXX has managed to break back to levels seen prior to its late February run-up. It will be interesting to watch this fund's progress in the coming days to see if it returns to all time lows.

iPath Dow Jones UBS Copper Subindex Total Return ETN

(JJC) - Get Report

2.0%

Copper is leading the base metals to notable losses. While JJC is taking the biggest hit, the pain can be felt across the industry. The

PowerShares DB Base Metals Fund

(DBB) - Get Report

is seeing an only slightly smaller drop.

DBB tracks a basket of futures contracts which track the price changes of copper, aluminum and zinc.

iPath Dow Jones UBS Cotton Subindex Total Return ETN

(BAL) - Get Report

-1.0%

A variety of agriculture-related commodities are getting knocked around, with cotton taking the brunt of the hit.

The shaky action seen today lends credence to the strengths a well diversified fund such as the

PowerShares DB Agriculture Fund

(DBA) - Get Report

. Despite BAL's decline, DBA is relatively unchanged.
