Yen Gains vs Dollar Despite Intervention

The yen was higher against the dollar Friday despite continuing efforts by the Bank of Japan to stem the currency's climb. Traders said the yen's strength could be attributable to conversions by Japanese companies ahead of the quarter's end. The dollar was recently at 119.10 yen, down about half a percent from yesterday and well below a high of 119.75 yen from earlier in the session. The euro was recently trading at 91.3 cents, down from 91.8 cents earlier.
