The yen fell to a three-year low against the dollar after a Japanese official suggested the government wouldn't intercede to support it.

Vice Finance Minister Haruhiko Kuroda said the yen's fall might be appropriate in light of Japan's economic difficulties. Recently, the yen was trading at about 127.53 per dollar, down from 127.30 late Friday.

The currency was at 115.28 per euro, down from 115.11.
