Stock markets in Asia were little changed in overnight action following a wild day on Wall Street that saw the Dow recover from a sharp slide at the open to end nearly flat.
In Tokyo the Nikkei 225 index rose 0.1%. Stocks in Shanghai traded flat, while in Hong Kong the Hang Seng index edged higher.
President Trump tweeted Thursday evening quoting a statement from China as saying: "The teams of both sides are now having smooth communications and good cooperation with each other. We are full of confidence that an agreement can be reached within the next 90 days."
The tweet didn't appear to be affecting U.S. market futures.
Futures were off 0.2% for the Dow, and 0.1% for the S&P 500. Nasdaq futures were flat.
