AAA published its annual Thanksgiving holiday forecast for travelers showing dramatic increases over last year. Some of the highlights are:

This year will see the highest one-year increase in holiday travelers (6.4 million) since 2005. 53.4 million people are expected to travel this Thanksgiving weekend.

48.3 million are expected to travel by car, an increase of 8.4% from 2020, and air travel is expected to increase to 4.2 million in 2021.

Travel by other modes, including train, bus, and cruise ship will increase to 1.02 million, nearly three times the 2020 volume.

The AAA report also points out that a rise in personal income will drive year-over-year growth in consumer spending up to 11.9% in the fourth quarter of 2021. However, average October gas prices have increased more than a dollar from 2020, the highest prices since 2014.
