Meyer's overall coaching record, including stints at Bowling Green and Utah, is 104-23.
Regarding Meyer's health, Earle Bruce, head coach of Ohio State when Meyer was a graduate assistant, told
The Associated Press
, "I'm not worried that he was stressed out over the game of football because he was thinking too much and not doing some things (exercising) that would have kept him straight. I think he got everything back under control by sitting out a year. I think he missed football. And he's good at it."
Meyer will take the reigns from Luke Fickell, who was brought in on an interim coach after 10-year coach Jim Tressel was forced to resign amid a tattoo-player scandal.
Meyer will get a multi-year contract worth about $6 million a year, the
AP
said. Meyer is originally from Ashtabula, Ohio.
