Now you can get your artisan cat crown and hand-woven moccasins with free shipping.
Online arts and crafts marketplace Etsy (ETSY - Get Report) on Tuesday announced that it will offer free shipping for customers with a basket worth at least $35. The service, which will be available globally, will begin at the end of this month, starting with U.S. shoppers.
The move is meant to get people who are being held back by extra shipping costs to click the buy button, according to Etsy CEO Josh Silverman.
"By making free shipping the norm on Etsy, rather than the exception, we'll connect more people with items that they love," Silverman said in a statement. "Ultimately, we believe this will help increase marketplace conversion and order value, encourage repeat visits, and drive more sales for Etsy sellers."
Starting July 30, the company will give priority placement in U.S. search results to its vendors that offer the free shipping servive on orders of $35 or more. The company will be rolling out educational tools and resources on how its sellers can get set up as free-shippers.
Shares of Etsy were down slightly in premarket trading on Tuesday after closing up about 1% on Monday at $64.01. The stock has gained about 35% this year.
