by offering fresh foods and prepared meals in its stores, according to reports.
The drugstore will begin offering products from companies like
in 7,000 of its stores nationwide,
reported. It is also considering creating its own private-label brand.
Walgreen brought back beer and wine to its stores in the fall, after discontinuing selling the products over a decade ago.
The move by Walgreen could potentially add pressure to traditional grocers like
, which have been losing market share to discounters like Wal-Mart and Target as they amp up their food offerings.
