shares were among the top gainers on the New York Stock Exchange Monday.
Krispy Kreme shares surged 7.7% ahead of midday Monday, though the gain amounted to just 43 cents. The stock trades around $6.04. The
PowerShares Zacks Small Cap
(PZJ)
, an exchange-traded fund that counts Krispy Kreme shares as 0.4% of its portfolio, fell 1.2%.
The donut maker is due to report third-quarter earnings after the closing bell Wednesday.

Analysts expect the Winston-Salem, N.C. company to return to year-over-year profitability with earnings of $100,000, or zero cents per share, compared with a year-earlier loss of $2.4 million, or 4 cents loss per share.
Revenue is expected to grow 5% to $87.8 million, from $83.6 million in the fiscal third quarter last year.
Krispy Kreme is currently above its 50-day moving average of $5.19 and above its 200-day moving average of $4.18.
