August Jobs Report Misses Expectations, Adds 235,000 Positions

The U.S. added 235,000 non-farm payrolls in August where the unemployment rate fells to 5.2 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.

"So far this year, monthly job growth has averaged 586,000," the Bureau said. "In August, notable job gains occurred in professional and business services, transportation and warehousing, private education, manufacturing, and other services. Employment in retail trade declined over the month.
