Another day, another retail earnings beat.

Real Money Stock of the Day Nordstrom (JWN - Get Report) surged after reporting earnings of 90 cents and revenue of $3.87 billion, marking a bottom-line beat.

"We delivered strong bottom-line results, demonstrating our inventory and expense discipline. We exited the quarter in a favorable inventory position and made important strides in productivity," co-president Erik Nordstrom told analysts Wednesday.

However, Nordstrom lowered its full-year earnings guidance.

Is the troubled retailer approaching a turnaround moment or is the bottom-line beat simply a sign of just how strong the U.S. consumer is?
