'Mad Money' Mailbag: Find Your Way in GPS
Editor's Note: The following are questions received from viewers of "Mad Money," seen every day at 6 p.m. EDT on CNBC.
What is your opinion on Garmin (GRMN) - Get Report and how it relates to the rest of the sector, like Trimble Navigation (TRMB) - Get Report and Sirf Technology (SIRF) ?-- Kathy from California
James J. Cramer:
Hands down, Garmin and Sirf are the leaders in handheld GPS navigation devices. Both companies recently posted upbeat second-quarter earnings results, and I believe they'll continue to gather momentum in the next couple of quarters. On the other hand, I believe that investors should avoid Trimble.
You said that Exxon (XOM) - Get Report lacked growth potential. What if the company simply spent the money it's using for its buyback?-- John from Ohio
James J. Cramer:
What you're talking about is the strategy that
Chevron
(CVX) - Get Report
is employing with its $17.2 billion purchase of
Unocal
(UCL)
. I can't say I agree with this direction, either. At this point of the energy cycle, I believe you need to stick with the explorers that have the best growth potential, like
Chesapeake Energy
(CHK) - Get Report
and
Southwestern Energy
(SWN) - Get Report
.
