McDonald's (MCD) kiosks? Who cares, Wendy's (WEN) is already thinking about fast pass drive-thru lanes.

Wendy's CEO Todd Penegor told TheStreet at our sister publication, The Deal's, annual corporate governance conference he thinks fast-pass drive thru lanes will be one part of the ordering process. A customer would place an order on a mobile device and have it waiting for them at a drive-thru window in a designated lane, Penegor hinted.

Dunkin' Brands (DNKN) rolled out a test version of the fast pass lane at one location earlier this year.

Even still, Penegor is making a kiosk push just like his larger fast-food rival McDonald's. Wendy's has kiosks installed in about 300 restaurants, with plans to continue rolling them out. These locations are seeing higher average checks and customer satisfaction scores, Penegor notes, likely as customers are able to truly customize their meals.

"It's a part of the future of eating out," Penegor says of the kiosks.

McDonald's said earlier this week it plans to add kiosks to 1,000 U.S. stores every quarter over the next two years.
