UnitedHealth's (UNH) - Get Report UnitedHealthcare announced today that contract negotiations with the Dayton, OH-based hospital network Premier Health have hit an impasse, which stands to jeopardize health plans of up to 80,000 local residents, according to the Dayton Daily News.
With the health insurers' current contract with Premier Health set to expire in the next 30-45 days, lines of businesses including employer-sponsored health plans, Medicare Advantage, and Medicaid stand to lose coverage.
UnitedHealthcare's contract with Premier hospitals will expire April 29 for employer-sponsored and Medicare members, and on May 13 for Medicaid members.
The company's contract with Premier physician groups will expire May 13 for employer-sponsored, Medicare and Medicaid members, if new terms can't be agreed upon.
While discussions will continue, UnitedHealthcare said it is readying to notify members that a new deal may not come to fruition.
"We're not trying to create a fight in the market, but...employees need to weigh in on this as well," UnitedHealthcare's executive director in southwest Ohio Caitlin Clipp said.
