Beginning today  Twitter (TWTR) - Get Report will allow its users more characters to reply to a tweet by not including the characters of a person's username, according to Recode.

The effort is part of a broader concept of allotting Twitter users more room to tweet without altering the 140-character limit.

The beleaguered social media firm first announced the update last May, however is just rolling out the feature now because it wanted to give partners who use its API the opportunity to prepare for longer tweets.
