losers Tuesday, as shares slumped 5.3% after the electronics retailer withdrew its first-half guidance and said it expects a big loss during the first quarter.

The company sees a first-quarter loss from continuing operations before income taxes of $80 million to $90 million. "Although the first half of the fiscal year will be volatile due to the change in the television business, we believe that our transformation efforts will yield positive results for the full fiscal year," the company said. Circuit City blamed first-quarter weakness on sluggish sales of large flat panel and projection televisions. Shares closed down 93 cents to $16.52.

Liz Claiborne

( LIZ) plunged 17.3% after the apparel maker posted first-quarter results that were well below expectations and warned that 2007 earnings would not be close to Wall Street's forecast. The company reported a profit of $16.2 million, or 16 cents a share, on revenue of $1.15 billion. Excluding items, the company earned $22.7 million, or 22 cents a share. Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expected a profit of 60 cents a share on revenue of $1.25 billion. During the year-earlier quarter, the company earned $46.9 million, or 45 cents a share, on revenue of $1.17 billion. Excluding items, the company earned $63 million, or 60 cents a share, during the year-earlier quarter.

Looking ahead, Liz Claiborne sees adjusted 2007 earnings of $1.90 to $2.05 a share. Analysts project earnings of $3.12 a share. "Clearly, we wish we could have reported better first-quarter earnings and provided a stronger outlook for the year," the company said. "Our first-quarter results reflect significant challenges in our domestic wholesale business, partially offset by improved direct to consumer performance." Shares closed down $7.72 to $37.

Archer Daniels Midland

slid 5.4% after the grain processor posted lower-than-expected third-quarter earnings. For the quarter ended March 31, the company earned $363 million, or 56 cents a share, on revenue of $11.38 billion. Results included a one-time gain of $33 million. Analysts expected a bigger profit of 62 cents a share on revenue of $9.65 billion. During the year-earlier quarter, the company earned $348 million, or 53 cents a share, on revenue of $9.12 billion. Shares closed down $2.10 to $36.60.

Under Armour

(UA) - Get Under Armour, Inc. Class C Report

fell 8.8% after the maker of athletic apparel posted first-quarter earnings that matched estimates but warned that second-quarter earnings would fall short of expectations. The company earned $9.9 million, or 20 cents a share, on revenue of $124.3 million. Analysts expected earnings of 20 cents a share on revenue of $120.4 million. During the year-earlier period, the company earned $8.7 million, or 18 cents a share, on revenue of $87.7 million.

Looking ahead, Under Armour sees second-quarter earnings of 2 cents to 3 cents a share. Analysts project earnings of 7 cents a share. Under Armour said that earnings would be hurt because of an increase in its marketing spending during the quarter. Shares closed down $4.44 to $46.06.

soared 22.1% after the fruit and vegetable producer posted first-quarter earnings that blew past estimates. The company earned $51.6 million, or 89 cents a share, on revenue of $836 million. Excluding items, the company earned 84 cents a share. Analysts expected earnings of 40 cents a share on revenue of $857.6 million. During the year-earlier quarter, the company earned $16.5 million, or 28 cents a share, on revenue of $840 million. Shares closed up $4.50 to $24.87.
