Target (TGT) - Get Target Corporation Report said Thursday that it is offering a same-day option on its app that will allow customers to have items delivered by the discount retailer's delivery service Shipt.

Shares were up 1.9% to $110.59.

The service allows customers to get such items as groceries, essentials, toys, baby-care products, kitchenware and other items that would be selected by Shipt shoppers and delivered to customers' homes, offices, hotel rooms, or other locations.

Customers can get same-day delivery at any time of year by becoming a Shipt member or by paying a $9.99 delivery fee per order. Target said it is offering customers who have not yet signed up for a Shipt membership a free four-week trial to experience the service. Orders can also be placed on behalf of someone else, such as a college student or a relative who can't easily get to a store.

The app is available for both iOS and Android users. Target said it is offering free same-day delivery on orders of $75 or more when they use the Target app or from Nov. 17 through Nov. 26.

The Target app includes a new "My Store" tab, allowing shoppers to convert lists to a shopping cart with a "Delivery" button. A "Discover" button also helps them to navigate and find other features, such as deals and seasonal content.

Target acquired Shipt in 2017 in a $550 million all-cash transaction.

"Millions of guests love using the Target app to shop, save and get what they need quickly-and it's a game-changer during the busy holiday season," Dawn Block, senior vice president, digital, said in a statement. "Adding same-day delivery to our app is another way we're making it easier and faster for guests to get the same great value, curated products and top-notch guest service they've come to expect from Target, all while placing an order online or directly from their phone."
