These patents are important for the implementation of cost-effective high- performance RFID technology, Zebra says. The portfolio was acquired for cash consideration of about $10 million.
"This portfolio of more than 200 U.S. and foreign patents and patent applications makes Zebra owner of one of the largest collections of RFID patents, including several of the earliest patents related to the technology," the company says. "This acquisition is part of Zebra's investment in a broad range of products and technologies necessary to be successful in RFID".
The shares of the company were trading up 28 cents, or 0.8%, to $34.90 Monday.
