Yahoo! Hires CBS Exec Katz

Continuing its drive into entertainment,

Yahoo!

(YHOO)

has named another leader culled from television management to its roster.

Former CBS Television executive David Katz will oversee the sports and entertainment division of the company's Santa Monica, Calif.-based media group.

Yahoo! Media encompasses the Internet juggernaut's sports, entertainment, movies and TV initiatives and is looking to grow its presence as an entertainment provider and outlet for TV content. There Katz will report to Lloyd Braun, head of the Yahoo! Media group. Braun is a former chairman of

Katz spent eight years at

Viacom's

(VIAB) - Get Report

CBS, in strategic planning and interactive ventures departments. There he was responsible for building CBS.com while also managing the streaming video side of the business.

"The media landscape is undergoing fundamental change, with consumers and advertisers demanding more compelling interactive experiences," said Katz, who prior to joining CBS worked as a management consultant for McKinsey in its media practice.
