One of the best-selling cars in America has snagged a face lift.

The mid-size 2017 Toyota (TM) - Get Report Camry XSE features aggressive front and rear styling, two things that have never been the norm for the the company's flagship family brand. The version on display at the New York International Auto Show even had red leather seats.

The XSE clocks in at 268-hp with its V6 engine.

Toyota's Bill May, Group Vice President and General Manager, told TheStreet that the design overhaul is in large part to keep the brand fresh. Doing so is especially critical as the Camry feels the heat from a barrage of crossover vehicles from Nissan, Ford (F) - Get Report and others.

Despite the competition, the Camry is still holding its own well.

Toyota sold 35,648 new Camry midsize sedans in March, surpassing sales of its RAV4 at 32,027. Meanwhile, Nissan's flagship sedan the Altima and Honda's (HMC) - Get Report Accord have come under pressure of late.
