National drug-store chain
posted a 10.3% increase in April same-stores sales, helped by a big jump in pharmacy sales.
The company also said total sales increased 14.9% to $3.18 billion, with pharmacy sales up 17.2%.
Same-store pharmacy sales were up 13.2% in the month, and total same-store prescription sales increased 5%, the company said. Front-end same-store sales rose 5.6%.
Deerfield, Ill.-based Walgreen opened 33 new stores in April, relocated three and closed one. The company has a total of 4,397 stores, compared with 4,014 stores a year ago.
