Wal-Mart's April Sales at Weak End of Range

It cites tough comparisons and an 'okay' Easter weekend.

said April same-store sales were trending toward the low end of its previously given range, as Easter retail traffic turned out just "okay."

In a weekly telephone update, the company said comps are running at the low end of its 5% to 7% growth range, in part because last year's April had a number of unusually strong categories.

This year, Wal-Mart said, sales of office supplies, electronics, toys and food led April results.

The shares were recently down 25 cents, or 0.5%, to $55.16.
