Shares of VimpleCom (VIP) were gaining by 2.41% to $4.05 on Thursday afternoon, after the international communications and technology company announced that its shareholders have approved its name change to VEON Ltd.

The company announced its intention to change names at the end of February "as it reinvents itself into a global tech company and brings a revolutionary Internet mobile platform to hundreds of millions of customers."

Starting from March 31 the company's American Depository shares will trade on the NASDAQ under the ticker VEON.
