The privately held produce company Growers Express issued a voluntary recall of certain fresh vegetable products due to concern about listeria contamination.

The Salinas, Calif., company's produce is found under the Green Giant, Trader Joe's and Signature Farms labels.

The affected products originated from a Growers Express production facility in Biddeford, Maine. They include cauliflower, sweet-potato crumbles and cubed butternut squash, among others.

The company said that no Listeria infections have been reported but that it was acting out of an abundance of caution.

Listeria infections can be fatal in young children, the elderly and people with compromised immune systems.

"The safety of our consumers is our first priority," said Tom Byrne, president of Growers Express. "We self-reported the need for this recall to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and stopped production immediately after being notified of a single positive sample by the Massachusetts Department of Health."

The company said it was deep-sanitizing the entire facility and the line equipment as well as conducting continued testing before it resumes production.
